Water Quality & Land Management serves the community through the development and oversight of local environmental resource focused projects and programs. WQLM also provides environmental support services, on an as needed basis, for multiple county departments, the city of Pensacola, and other local partners. Staff scientists have expertise in various disciplines, including environmental science, marine biology, chemistry, urban forestry, and wildlife management.
The following programs are managed by WQLM:
- Surface Water Quality Improvements & Monitoring (Floodplain Expansion Projects, Stream Restorations, Stormwater Retrofits, TMDLs, Bayou Chico BMAP, etc.)
- Urban Forestry & Land Management (Tree Plantings, Prescribed Fire,Vegetation Management, Wildlife Habitat Restoration Invasive Species Management)
- Air Quality Monitoring & Compliance (Hydrogen Sulfide, Particulates)
- Southwest Greenway & Trail System (Design, Construction)
- Laboratory Services (Analysis of Surface Water, Groundwater, Soil, Sediment)
- Coastal Resources Management (Beach Nourishment, Dune Restoration, Dune Cross-Overs, Perdido Key Habitat Conservation Plan)
- Environmental Permit Compliance (NPDES Monitoring, Landfill Monitoring, Individual Permit Compliance)
