The Englewood Redevelopment District was adopted by the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners in 2000 pursuant to ordinance number 2000-25. The district covers an urban area of approximately 1.7 square miles consisting of high density mixed uses and abuts the Palafox and Brownsville Redevelopment Districts to the north and south, respectively.
The Englewood District features a unique historical background dating back to its development in the early 1900s. During this period, Englewood served historical Pensacola with variety upscale housing developments which provided luxuries unavailable in crowded downtown Pensacola. Today, Englewood is home to the prominent neighborhoods of Ebonwood, Englewood, Bell’s Head, Britton Place and Gary Circle, many of which date back to the area’s development. The district is served by two major institutional anchors including Baptist Hospital and its sister organization, the Lakeview Center, as well as, a variety of commercial uses along its four primary corridors which include Fairfield Avenue, “E” Street, “W” Street and Pace Boulevard.
