Interstate 10 (I-10) westbound, near the Scenic Highway overpass in Escambia County will be restricted to one lane from 7 p.m. Friday, February 13, to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, and Monday, February 16, through Thursday, February 19, from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. as crews perform deck work for the new Scenic Highway overpass.

Beginning today through February 13, motorists may experience intermittent lane closures on Pensacola Beach as Escambia County Contractor crews and the Santa Rosa Island Authority work to enhance the pedestrian crossings from the Beach Marina/Quiet Water Beach Area to Avenida 23. The improvements will consist of pedestrian crossing signage, pavement markings and pedestrian activated warning sign installation. These improvements are being implemented to enhance pedestrian safety and to reflect recent Statutory changes in Florida's pedestrian law, which mandate that motorists stop when approaching pedestrians within a marked, mid-block crosswalk.

During this morning's Agenda Review review session, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners agreed to remove two items from tonight's agenda. The first item concerned a scheduled discussion regarding flags to be displayed at County buildings. The second item was the 3:32 p.m. Public Hearing which would have addressed what is commonly been referred to as an "open container ordinance." The discussion on the display of flags at County facilities has been rescheduled to the March 5 County Commission Meeting. There are currently no plans to bring back the open container ordinance for future discussion.

Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) will make route and service adjustments for the Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2015 Military Exercise on NAS Pensacola and NASP Corry Station starting on Monday February 2nd until Friday February 13th. Public access to both bases will be limited for the military exercise and may experience delays due to traffic congestion.

An incident took place today at the Escambia County Jail resulting in a 38-year-old African-American male inmate being transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.\r\n\r\nThe circumstances surrounding this event are now under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Escambia County Corrections is fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office investigators.\r\n

Lane Closures on I-10: The right lane of westbound Interstate 10 (I-10) near the Scenic Highway overpass at exit 17 in Escambia County will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28. The nightly closures will allow crews to position large beams for the new Scenic Highway overpass. In addition, traffic in the left lane of I-10 westbound will be slowed by Florida Highway Patrol escort vehicles between the hours of 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Drivers should anticipate travel delays during this time.
