An unimmunized horse in Escambia County, Florida, was recently euthanized because it contracted Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Unimmunized horses throughout the County are at risk for this disease and horse owners are encouraged to keep current all equine immunizations for mosquito-borne diseases.

Traffic on Pineville Road will be transitioned to the temporary roadway and bridge on Wednesday, July 30. Crews will then begin demolishing and replacing the existing bridge over Brushy Creek. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) awarded a $1.1 million contract to replace the existing structure and make minor drainage improvements. The bridge replacement project is anticipated to be complete fall 2014.

A joint meeting was held on July 18 at the Pensacola Bay Center, of which all County Commissioners, Mayor Hayward and City Council members were in attendance. More than 100 citizens attended the meeting to hear a presentation by J. David Waggoner, FAIA, and discuss storm water issues. Public input was also given on the subject and presentations were also given by County Administrator Jack Brown and City Administrator Colleen Castille regarding efforts to improve drainage systems in our community.

The eastbound right lane on Interstate 10 (I-10), just west of the U.S. 29 Interchange (mile marker 7) will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 21, as crews remove temporary barrier wall. Motorists are reminded to use caution and obey the posted speed limit, especially at night, when traveling through the work zone.
