On October 18, 2012, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners established the RESTORE Act Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to develop a plan, take public input and set the final goals for the community’s use of RESTORE funds. The Committee will review projects and submit recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration. The Committee will consist of nine members who are residents of Escambia County, with committee members individually representing the financial industry, the business community, transportation, government, the City of Pensacola, local environmental advocacy organizations, citizens-at-large, and two unrestricted at-large positions to be determined by Board approval.

Beginning Friday, June 8 at 8 p.m. Chauncey Street at Palafox Street will be closed to through traffic. Traffic will be detoured along Palafox Street to East Nine Mile Road and East Nine 1/2 Mile Road. Construction will consist of the upgrading and installation of new pipe.

Beginning Wednesday, June 6 at 7 a.m. Fowler Avenue between West Nine Mile Road and McKinnon Lane will be closed to through traffic. Traffic will be detoured along Cove Avenue, Nine 1/2 mile Road and Highway 29. Construction will consist of the installation of sewers and connecting existing sanitary sewers to the newly installed sewers.

Kitten season is upon us and it's the purrrfect time of the year to adopt a feline friend from the Escambia County Animal Shelter. To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, Escambia County is offering a special reduced adoption fee of $20 for all cats and kittens for the month of June. Adoption fees include altering of the animal (spay or neutering services), microchip and the initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccinations.
