Beginning Tuesday, July 17 at 7 a.m. Waring Road between West Nine Mile Road and Bush Street will be closed to through traffic. Traffic will be detoured along Pine Forest Road and Nine Mile Road. Construction will consist of the upgrading of the existing storm drainage system.

The Pensacola Bay Bridge replacement project reached a construction milestone this past week as crews drove the final concrete piling for the new eastbound (Pensacola to Gulf Breeze) bridge. The 1,062 piles for the eastbound bridge range in length from 120 to 210 feet and weigh as much as 190,000 pounds. Crews have driven the piles to depths averaging 80 to 100 feet into the bay floor.

An invasive aquatic plant species, Giant salvinia, has been found in parts of Bayou Chico, one of only five locations throughout the state where the South American species has been positively identified. Confirmation of the floating species was made by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on June 12.

Lane 4 of the Bob Sikes Bridge Toll Plaza entering Pensacola Beach will be temporarily closed today to replace an air conditioning unit inside the toll booth. The lane will be reopened no later than 9 a.m. Friday, July 6. Other tolling lanes will remain open throughout the day. No lanes on the Bob Sikes Bridge or past the toll plaza will be closed.
