Six Pence Road will experience short-term lane closures on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Traffic will be detoured along Olive Road to Excelsior Drive. Six Pence Drive can be accessed at the intersection of Pompano Drive and Six Pence Drive.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Michael is centered this morning about 50 miles (80 km) south of the western tip of Cuba and 140 miles (220 km) east of Cozumel, Mexico. Michael has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and is moving north at approximately 7 mph. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the Florida Panhandle, including Escambia County. Steady to rapid strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and Michael is forecast to become a major hurricane by Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Ashland Avenue at Nine Mile Road in Escambia County will remain closed to traffic through 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 as crews place drainage pipes across the roadway. This work is part of the drainage improvements associated with the Nine Mile Road widening project. Detour signs and variable message boards are in place to alert drivers about the temporary road closure.

Escambia County collected and disposed of more than 32 tons (64,340 pounds) of debris during the Oct. 3 Crescent Lake Neighborhood Cleanup, as part of the county's ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe. The event allowed residents to leave items at the curb to be disposed of free of charge by the county and partnering agencies.

Residents in the Crescent Lake area will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Wednesday, Oct. 3 during the Crescent Lake Neighborhood Cleanup in District 1. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected. The general cleanup area is south of East Shore Drive, north of Michigan Avenue, east of Crescent Lake and west of Empire Drive.
