    Untreiner Avenue between Nine Mile Road and the Home Depot parking lot will be closed to through traffic beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4, instead of the previously scheduled date of Friday, Aug. 31. Traffic will be detoured along Fowler Avenue South. The closure will consist of improvements to the sanitary system.

  • Update: Escambia County Corrections Office Building Remains Closed

    The Escambia County Corrections Office Building, located at 2251 Palafox St., was evacuated about 11:30 a.m. after a strong smell was reported by staff in the building. After running tests, an organic material is thought to be the cause. Escambia County Facilities Management and ECUA crews are still in the process of determining the origin.

    Escambia County Animal Control urges residents to be on the lookout for an Australian Shepherd that escaped from the Escambia County Animal Shelter. He was last seen headed west on Fairfield Drive near W Street. If you encounter the dog, please do not approach him, but instead call Animal Control at 850-595-0097.

    The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners will hold two budget hearings to discuss approving the proposed Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 5:31 p.m. and the second Monday, Sept. 17 at 5:31 p.m. Both meetings will take place in the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building.

    Residents in the Brownsville area will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Wednesday, Sept. 19 during the Brownsville Northwest Neighborhood Cleanup in District 3. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected.
