Residents in the Navy Point/Bayou Davenport area will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Wednesday, Oct. 17 during the Navy Point/Bayou Davenport Neighborhood Cleanup in District 2. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected.

In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions on Tuesday, Sept. 18 in Commission Districts 1, 2 and 3. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m.

The South Old Corry Field Road Improvement Project is scheduled to begin at the end of September. This project not only replaces the bridge which was temporarily repaired after the 2014 floods, but will double the outfall capacity of the basin, reducing the flooding risks for the Warrington and Lake Charlene areas.Construction costs are estimated at $3.4 million, funded by local option sales tax, and the project will take just over a year to complete, weather permitting.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. until noon at Blue Angels Elementary School, 1551 Dog Track Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

On Wednesday, Sept. 12 the Escambia County Marine Resources Division managed the deployment of 12 concrete artificial reef modules by ReefMaker LLC out of Orange Beach, Alabama. The reef modules are 15 feet tall, and weigh 18 tons each. These modules were deployed in the Escambia Southeast Reef Site, approximately 10 miles southeast of Pensacola Pass. Water depths range between 80 to 100 feet.

Escambia County will construct roadway improvements at the intersection of Highway 297A and Kingsfield Road in Cantonment. New overhead traffic signals will be installed and placed into flash mode on Thursday, Sept. 13, and will remain in flash mode until Monday, Sept. 17, when the signals will be switched to full red, yellow, and green operations.

Nine Mile Road between Cove Avenue and Ashland Avenue is now open according to Pensacola Energy. The section of roadway closed around 11:15 a.m. due to a construction related break in a natural gas line. Drivers are asked to still use caution while in the area as delays are still possible.
