All animals that were brought to the Escambia County Animal Shelter yesterday from the Humane Society of Bay County are being transported to partner shelters in the northeast today and will not be available for adoption from the Escambia County Animal Shelter. Escambia County is operating as a transport hub for animals being impacted by the storm and will not be housing these animals permanently.

The Escambia County Animal Shelter is operating as a transport hub for animal shelters and welfare organizations in the panhandle impacted by Hurricane Michael. The shelter began the process of transferring local animals to other shelters this morning to make room for animals arriving from impacted areas, and accepted the first animals from Bay County this evening.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. until noon at Blue Angels Elementary School, 1551 Dog Track Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

In the wake of Hurricane Michael, Escambia County is assisting areas to the east that have been impacted by the storm. Strike teams from Escambia County Public Safety are embedded in Bay County, Florida to cover emergency responses and mitigate hazards in the path of Hurricane Michael's destruction. The strike teams will essentially be providing a stand-up public safety system since the local area was so decimated.

The Six Pence Road closure has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Traffic will be detoured along Olive Road to Excelsior Drive. Six Pence Drive can be accessed at the intersection of Pompano Drive and Six Pence Drive.

Molino Elementary School located at 899 Highway 97 is now open as a pet-friendly shelter. Please bring the pet's food, water, bedding, medications, collar with ID tag, familiar items like toys, crate, leash and proof of vaccinations. You must stay at the shelter with your pet.
