Portions of the Bob Sikes Fishing Pier are now open after being temporarily closed due to Hurricane Michael. The Bob Sikes South Pier is open with the exception of the last 100 feet, and the Bob Sikes North Pier is open with the exception of the last 725 feet.

Olive Road will experience short-term lane closures beginning Thursday, Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. A portion of Olive Road between Tippin Avenue and Malibu Drive will be closed to through traffic. Traffic heading eastbound on Olive Road will be detoured to Tippin Avenue, around the the north intersection of Tippin Avenue and Malibu Drive, back to Olive Road.

A portion of Olive Road between Hendrix Avenue and Stark Avenue will be closed to through traffic. Traffic heading eastbound on Olive Road will be detoured to Stark Avenue, around the south intersection of Beagles Street and Stark Avenue, to Hendrix Avenue, then north to Olive Road. Westbound traffic will be detoured along Olive Road to Hendrix Avenue, onto Beagles Street and continue to Stark Avenue, back to Olive Road.

It's the perfect time of the year to adopt a friend from the Escambia County Animal Shelter. The Escambia County Animal Shelter is offering a special reduced adoption fee of $50 for all dogs and puppies and $20 for all cats and kittens during the month of December. Adoption fees include altering of the animal (spay or neutering services), microchip, heart worm test, and the initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccinations.

The northbound U.S. 29 off-ramp onto Nine Mile Road in Escambia County will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 to 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 as crews place drainage pipes across the roadway in association with the U.S. 29 widening project. Northbound local traffic may use W. Hood Drive as an alternate route or perform a U-turn at 9 ½ Mile Road.
