Rhett Road between St. Johns Road and Scarlett Lane will be closed to through traffic beginning Tuesday, June 12 at 7 a.m. The roadway closure is expected to remain in effect for approximately seven days. Every effort will be made to expedite construction efforts to reopen the road before Saturday, June 19.

Escambia County's Marine Resources Division and the University of West Florida deployed the Argo Reef in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, June 7, approximately 12.5 nautical miles southeast of Pensacola Pass. The Argo Reef consists of the university's steel dive platform, which has been anchored for many years near the Emmanuel Point shipwreck site to support underwater archaeological research.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, June 9 from 8 a.m. until noon across from the Naval Hospital located at 6000 W. Highway 98. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions on Thursday, June 7 in commission district 1. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m.

The Escambia County Mosquito Control Division has identified a new species of mosquito within the county called Aedes japonicus, or Asian bush mosquito. The Asian bush mosquito can also be found in Santa Rosa, Walton, Okaloosa, Bay and Leon Counties, and with the migration into Escambia, it brings the known list of mosquito species in our county to 73.

On October 18, 2012, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners established the RESTORE Act Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to develop a plan, take public input and set the final goals for the community’s use of RESTORE funds. The Committee will review projects and submit recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration. The Committee will consist of nine members who are residents of Escambia County, with committee members individually representing the financial industry, the business community, transportation, government, the City of Pensacola, local environmental advocacy organizations, citizens-at-large, and two unrestricted at-large positions to be determined by Board approval.
