The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. until noon at Washington High School, 6000 College Parkway. Today, Sept. 5, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Gulf of Mexico Program awarded the Bay Area Resource Council a $2 million cooperative agreement to establish the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program. The project is the result of several years of collaboration and is the first Estuary Program in Northwest Florida.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Escambia County until 7 p.m. today. According to NWS, radar indicated thunderstorms will produce heavy rain across the warned area throughout the day. Up to 10 inches of rain has already fallen between Tuesday and today, and flash flood conditions are expected to continue. Some areas may see a two-day total of over 15 inches of rainfall.

Powell as the new Director of Corrections, with responsibilities to include oversight of the Escambia County Jail, Community Corrections Division and Road Prison.
