Kitten season is upon us and it's the purrrfect time of the year to adopt a feline friend from the Escambia County Animal Shelter. To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, Escambia County is offering a special reduced adoption fee of $20 for all cats and kittens for the month of June. Adoption fees include altering of the animal (spay or neutering services), microchip and the initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccinations.

According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a high chance of 90L developing into a subtropical or tropical depression in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. However, it is still too early to determine what direct impacts the system might have on Escambia County and Northwest Florida, but heavy rain and dangerous rip currents are expected. Escambia County Emergency Management is closely monitoring this system, and staff are on call to respond as needed. Residents are urged to do the same by monitoring our local media for the most up-to-date forecasts several times a day.

Escambia County Emergency Management has launched a new "Know Your Zone" website for residents to look up their hurricane evacuation zone and storm surge impacts, just in time for the 2018 hurricane season. The new evacuation lookup tool is mobile responsive, features an improved address search tool and clearly shows residents the impact of storm surge simulations for each level of possible called evacuations.
