Beach goers will not be asked to pay the $1 Bob Sikes toll to Pensacola Beach for the Blue Angels airshow. On Tuesday morning, the Visit Pensacola board of directors unanimously agreed to waive the toll fee after District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender approached them with the idea as a way to reduce traffic during one of the busiest weekends on Pensacola Beach.

Beach goers will not be asked to pay the $1 Bob Sikes toll to Pensacola Beach this fourth of July holiday weekend. District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender announced late Wednesday that he will utilize District 4 discretionary funds to pay the toll from midnight Thursday, July 4 to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 7. Starting at midnight, all lanes will be open for all drivers, with no need to stop at the toll booth.

Cove Avenue north of Nine Mile Road will be closed from 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 9 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13 to perform drainage improvements. Traffic will be detoured to West Nine and One Half Mile Road and Fowler Avenue. Detour signs and variable message boards are in place to alert drivers of the temporary road closure and detour routes.

Drivers on the existing Pensacola Bay Bridge are reminded to keep their eyes on the road and to maintain a safe speed as construction crews install the 800,000-pound steel arch atop the new eastbound Pensacola Bay Bridge Thursday, June 27. The navigational channel beneath the bridge will be closed to marine traffic and the U.S. Coast Guard will patrol the area to maintain a safety buffer.
