In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions on Thursday, Sept. 23 in Commission District 1. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m.

Residents of Cantonment/Farm Hill will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Friday, Sept. 24 during the Neighborhood Cleanup in District 5. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected.

Escambia County collected and disposed of approximately 68 tons (136,000 pounds) of debris during the District 3 Brentwood/Aviation Field Neighborhood Cleanup in August as part of the county's ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe.

The Peanut Butter Challenge, UF/IFAS Extension’s annual jar collection for local food pantries that launched in the Florida Panhandle in 2012, is again spreading statewide this year. Coordinated by UF/IFAS Extension faculty, staff and volunteers, the competition among counties – for bragging rights only – was conceived as a way to feed hungry families ahead of the holidays in addition to promoting a Florida-grown crop.

The Escambia County Board of Commissioners will hold its Second Public Budget Hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 5:31 p.m. The meeting will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, found on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place. Escambia County will begin operating under the new budget on Oct. 1, which is the start of the 2022 fiscal year.

A 30,000 pound food giveaway will be held next Saturday, Sept. 25 in Cantonment. The event will take place on a first come, first served basis from 8-10 a.m. at Carver Park, 208 Webb Street. The giveaway is sponsored by Rep. Michelle Salzman, Escambia County District 5 Commissioner Steven Barry, Feeding the Gulf Coast, Pinewood Presbyterian Church, Cantonment Improvement Committee and Trailer Parts Plus of Florida.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. until noon at Blue Angels Elementary School, 1551 Dog Track Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.
