At the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners meeting on May 18, the board adopted a proclamation to declare May 21-27, 2023, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
In 1974, President Gerald Ford established EMS Week to recognize the EMS personnel for the important work they do throughout our nation's communities. This year, Escambia County will be celebrating EMS Week with theme, "Where Emergency Care Begins."
For the period of Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2022, the men and women of Escambia County EMS responded to 74,060 calls. Available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, they stand ready to provide Critical Care Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Bariatric Transports to all residents and visitors.
Following the success EMS experienced in 2022, they strengthened their commitment to the citizens and visitors by integrating ALS 360, a 10-year program that supplies Escambia County EMS with a variety of brand-new medical equipment, ensuring EMS is always using top-grade equipment. Escambia County EMS provides a vital public service to ensure that residents and visitors have access to quality emergency care, which dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate to those who experience a sudden illness or injury.
Daily, the men and women of Escambia County EMS rise to the many challenges they face, even if it meant spending countless hours away from their families and friends.
“Our team continues to meet the challenges of the ever-increasing demand placed on Emergency Medical Services," said EMS Chief David Torsell III. "The tireless effort of our EMTs and Paramedics is a testament to the dedication they provide to the citizens of Escambia County every day.”
The Escambia Board of County Commissioners proudly recognizes and congratulates the men and women of Escambia County EMS during Emergency Medical Services Week.
