    In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions Thursday, July 27, in commission districts 1 and 5. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m. All operations are dependent on weather conditions.

  • District 3 Ensley North Neighborhood Cleanup on Aug. 2

    Join us in keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe! A neighborhood cleanup for residents in Ensley North will take place Wednesday, Aug. 2. This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is eligible for removal during this cleanup.

  • Reminder: "Empty the Shelters" Adoption Event Ends July 31

    The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare is excited to announce its participation in the BISSELL Pet Foundation "Empty the Shelters" event, July 6-31. During this time, adoptions for all cats and dogs 1 year or older will be free. Puppies will be available for $50 and kittens will be available for $25.

    During the July 18 Escambia County Board of County Commissioners meeting, District 2 Commissioner Mike Kohler delivered a proclamation to the Center of Independent Living of Northwest Florida for their 43rd anniversary celebration. The Center for Independent Living of Northwest Florida was established on July 1, 1980, to ensure that people with disabilities had access to service choices in the community.

  • Lexington Terrace Park Closed for Upgrades, Maintenance July 24-Aug. 4

    Lexington Terrace Park, located at 900 S. Old Corry Field Road, will close temporarily beginning Monday, July 24. During this time, Escambia County Parks and Recreation will be installing a new playground, adding dog park equipment, cleaning the park and performing general park maintenance. The park is expected to re-open Friday, Aug. 4.

  • Escambia BCC Amends Barrier Island Lighting Ordinance

    During the July 18 Escambia County Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board voted 5-0 to approve amendments to the Barrier Island Lighting Ordinance which regulates coastal lighting on Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key. The amendment includes new lighting requirements for areas of Perdido Key south of Semmes Road and updates to the existing requirements on Pensacola Beach.
