In March, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners approved a reduction in the Pensacola Beach General Public Annual Pass, reducing the annual fee from $50 to $20. The board's action does not impact the ability to choose to pay the cash toll of $1 for single trips or the other Pensacola Beach Annual Pass rates.

Firefighters moved back into the Myrtle Grove Fire Station located at 7209 Lillian Hwy. on Tuesday, April 25. Station 11, which operates as a combination fire service with both volunteer and career firefighting personnel, was closed June 24, 2016 due to a roof leak that resulted in mold issues in the building.

On Tuesday, April 25 leaders and staff from the Escambia County Commission, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Navy met to discuss the impacts on traffic from the very popular Blue Angel practices held at the National Naval Aviation Museum located on Naval Air Station Pensacola. Two main solutions will be put into place to help relieve traffic conditions for both air show goers and those traveling Gulf Beach Highway.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has awarded more than $217,000 in RESTORE grant funding for the Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project. Funding will support the first phase of planning, engineering, design and permitting of the environmental restoration project. Living shorelines address erosion by providing long-term protection, reducing wave energy and restoring vegetated shoreline habitats through strategic placement of plants, rock and oyster reefs.
