A fire in the 400 block of Hyacinth Drive sent three patients, including two adults and one child, to the hospital this morning. The fire was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday by an Escambia County Sheriff's deputy who was responding an incident in the area and spotted the fire at the Stoddert Place Apartment complex.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has had contractors working to finalize the closure of Rolling Hills Construction and Demolition Debris facility located off Rolling Hills Road. The vast majority of the work onsite has been completed. However, recent heavy rains have caused some erosion of the soil cap and stormwater features prior to stabilization being complete.

Escambia County would like to provide updated information about the county's successful ongoing remediation of the former Mosquito Control site at 603 W. Romana St. The county has been addressing contamination issues at the site since the Mosquito Control Division moved to a new facility in 2005, developing a Remedial Action Plan in 2010 to implement remediation strategies.

The Escambia County Commission voted Thursday, Jan. 5 to waive all fees relating to permitting and inspection for storm damage repairs from the severe weather Jan. 1 and 2, upon submission of the required permit application documentation. Fees for storm damage only will be waived until 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 3.
