Don't miss UF/IFAS Escambia County Extension's next "Science Hour," where restoring scallops in our bays will be the topic of discussion. The free event is Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Escambia County Central Office Complex located at
3363 West Park Place.
Science Hour is a new series that began in June where local topics are explored. Each session is free to the public and held at 6 p.m. in the Escambia County Central Office Complex. Additional dates and topics include:
- Sept. 21, Local Water Quality Issues: What You Can Do To Help - The water quality issues within the Pensacola Bay system will be discussed, along with what is currently being done and how citizens can help improve the water quality.
- Oct. 19, Bats - Bats and vampires get a lot of bad press around Halloween, but these creatures play an extremely important role in the environment year-round. Learn more about local species of bats, their many benefits to human health, and how to attract them to your yard.
- Nov. 16, Stormwater Pollution - Stormwater is a major environmental issue both in terms of flooding and non point source pollution. We will discuss how low-impact design features can be implemented in our community to both prevent stormwater from entering our waterways and treat it as it does.
