The third annual Pensacola Lionfish Removal and Awareness Day Festival will take place May 20-21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Plaza de Luna, located at 900 S. Palafox St. The event raises awareness about lionfish, a nonnative, invasive species that has a potential negative impact on native species and habitat.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. until noon at Pensacola High School, located at 500 W. Escambia County Fire Rescue visited 605 homes, installing 78 smoke detectors and 21 carbon monoxide detectors, Saturday in conjunction with the Wedgewood Health Fair at the Marie K. Young/Wedgewood Community Center, located at 6405 Wagner Road. ECFR crews also replaced the batteries in 34 existing units.
