The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Perdidio Landfill, located at 13009 Beulah Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

At the Thursday, Nov. 30 commission meeting, District 2 Commissioner Doug Underhill was recognized for his year of leadership as chairman and the new commission chairman and vice chairman assumed their roles. District 1 Commissioner Jeff Bergosh was appointed to serve as chairman and District 3 Commissioner Lumon May was chosen to serve as vice chairman for the coming year.

Escambia County Fire Rescue, in collaboration with the Pensacola Fire Department, will be launching its annual “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety campaign Friday, Dec. 1. This campaign is designed to promote fire safety during the month of December, with both departments hoping to reduce the number of fires during this time.

The Escambia County Animal Shelter has been awarded a $75,000 grant for extensive renovations to the shelter, which will improve animal welfare while enhancing overall aesthetics at the shelter. The renovation process will also be filmed and broadcast nationally on PBS on an episode of Shelter Me, an uplifting film series that celebrates shelter pets and the people who help them.
