The National Hurricane Center is now issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Nate, located over northeastern Nicaragua and moving north toward the Gulf of Mexico. Escambia County Emergency Management is closely monitoring this system and participating in conference calls with the National Weather Service and State Emergency Operations Center.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression 16 formed over the southwestern Caribbean Sea this morning. Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development, and TD 16 is expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight.

If you want to help feed the hungry in Florida’s Panhandle this year, you can donate peanut butter during the annual Peanut Butter Challenge, coordinated by UF/IFAS Extension. Thanks to a partnership of UF/IFAS Extension and the Florida Peanut Producers Association, food pantries from Pensacola to Monticello will receive thousands of jars of donated peanut butter this December

Crews will perform railroad crossing and paving operations on State Road 296 (Beverly Parkway) from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2. Eastbound Beverly Parkway between Pipeline Drive and County Road (C.R.) 453 (North W. Street) will close to through traffic at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. Once completed, westbound Beverly Parkway will be temporarily closed as workers complete crossing and road work on the westbound lanes.

The winners of 2017 Southeastern States Manhunt Field Trials were named at the event's closing ceremony today. Twenty-one K-9 Teams from Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Arkansas competed in the event hosted by the Escambia County Road Prison from Sept.18-22.
