Interstate 10/Scenic Highway widening project completed
The Interstate 10 (I-10) widening project, between Davis and Scenic Highways in Escambia County has been completed.
The $43.1 million effort included:
- Widening I-10 from four to six travel lanes between Exits 13 and 17,
- Installing sound walls along I-10,
- Widening Scenic Highway between Northpointe Parkway and Whisper Way,
- Constructing a new Scenic Highway overpass,
- Adding sidewalk and a pedestrian/bike lane on Scenic Highway,
- Drainage upgrades,
- Safety improvements to include pedestrian features, traffic signal upgrades and new highway lighting.

"We appreciate the community's patience during this major construction project," said Project Administrator Doug Pritchard. "With daily traffic counts on I-10 near 45,000, and 20,000 on Scenic Highway, the additional lanes improve mobility, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for commuters."

Interstate 10/U.S. 29 interchange project update
I-10 westbound drivers destined for U.S. 29 northbound (Cantonment) and U.S. 29 southbound (Pensacola) are now using the new exit, designated "Exit 10.
"The new exit replaces the separate exits for U.S. 29 north and southbound formerly at this location. Drivers should expect some ramp and lane closures on I-10 and U.S. 29 Sunday through Thursday evenings from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as the work is finalized this spring," said Project Engineer Erica Jernigan.

Interstate 10, Escambia Bay Bridge to Avalon Boulevard
Work on this $38.6 million project is focused near Avalon Boulevard. Last month the construction team reached a major milestone by shifting all four lanes of Avalon Boulevard traffic to the east, near the I-10 overpass. The shift will be in place through spring 2018 as crews reconstruct the southbound lanes. The work includes new curb and gutter, sidewalks, and bike lanes on Avalon Boulevard north and southbound.

"Once the southbound lanes are reconstructed, crews will shift traffic to the west and begin work on the northbound lanes," said Project Administrator Rod Rowell. "Drivers are encouraged to obey the lower posted speed limit (60 mph on I-10, 35 mph on Avalon Boulevard) and pay close attention to all construction signs when approaching this interchange."
Drivers should expect continued lane closures on I-10 and Avalon Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday evenings.
