Escambia County Sea Turtle Patrol volunteers recorded Perdido Key’s first sea turtle nest of the season early this morning, May 31. After an earlier false crawl in Perdido Key, staff and volunteers are thrilled to finally receive a nest. June and July are the busiest nesting months in Escambia County, so more nests are expected in the coming weeks.

Escambia County is urging residents to remain prepared before, during and after a storm during hurricane season by stocking up on seven days' worth of supplies, otherwise known as being "One Week Ready." Hurricane season begins Saturday, June 1, and continues until November 30.

This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is eligible for removal during this cleanup.
