This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is eligible for removal during this cleanup.

Members of the Escambia County Fire Rescue Light Technical Rescue Team deployed Wednesday, Aug. 30, to Madison, Fla. to assist with rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia. ECFR's crew will spend up to 14 days working in the disaster-affected area performing search and rescue operations.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 30, SR-399 between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach has reopened. Fort Pickens Road within the Gulf Islands National Seashore will remain closed until further notice.

In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions Wednesday, Aug. 30, in commission district 1. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m. All operations are dependent on weather conditions.

District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender will host a town hall Thursday, Aug. 31, at 5:30 p.m. at the Courts of Praise Fellowship Church, 2260 East Johnson Ave. The purpose of this town hall is to allow the developer of the proposed Pebble Crossing apartment complex on Governor's Drive an opportunity to answer residents' questions.

Brentwood Park, 4905 N. Palafox St. in District 3, will close starting Thursday, Aug. 31, while the Escambia County Facilities Management Department begins construction work on the park. A notice will be sent out once the park reopens.

Escambia County Fire Rescue recently responded to garage fires on Aug. 18 and 19 that were the result of lithium-ion batteries overheating. In both instances, battery-operated push mowers in the garages caught fire. Fortunately, both were detected early and resulted in damage contained to the garage. ECFR urges the public to use caution when utilizing or storing lithium-ion batteries.

Escambia County District 5 Commissioner Steven Barry will host a town hall Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the Molino Community Center, located at 6450-A N. Hwy. 95A in Molino. This is an open forum event and residents of District 5 are invited and encouraged to attend. County staff will be in attendance to address any additional questions or concerns from residents.

Escambia County will host three volunteer workdays at the Perdido Key Coastal Demonstration Garden at 15500 Perdido Key Dr. The workdays will take place Sept. 15, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Workdays are open to the public and are great opportunities to become familiar with native species and gardening techniques, including how to care for and maintain coastal species.

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire at the 5900 block of Hurst Hammock Road in Beulah. ECFR units arrived at a brush fire of approximately two acres in size and quickly expanded with winds blowing from the northwest.

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking two Escambia County residents interested in volunteering to be considered for an appointment to the Escambia County Board of Electrical Examiners. Residents interested in serving are asked to submit a resume and letter indicating their desire to serve by the close of business on Friday, Sept. 8.

Beginning Friday, Aug. 25, Forestry mulching operations will be conducted on 55 acres at the Escambia County Southwest Sportsplex, located at 2020 Bauer Road. The public should use caution around the area. Operations are expected to continue for the next three weeks.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners and the City of Pensacola are hosting the inaugural "Real Change" community partner event at the Brownsville Community Center. Real Change is a free event that focuses on opioid addiction education and introduces attendees to the various resources available in the community.
