The Natural Resources Conservation Division is preparing for a prescribed burn in the Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve. Staff anticipates conducting burn activities between Tuesday, Dec. 12 through Friday, Dec, 15, weather permitting.

The Escambia County Engineering Department will begin a resurfacing paving project Monday, Dec. 11, on East Quintette Road from Highway 95-A to the Santa Rosa County line. The project is expected to be completed by January 2024, weather permitting.

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Don Christian, III, as the December Employee of the Month and the 2023 Employee of the Year. Don, the Traffic Program Manager for the Engineering Department's Transportation and Traffic Operations division, has been employed with Escambia County since April 2007.

Escambia County Fire Rescue, in collaboration with the Pensacola Fire Department, will launch its annual “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety campaign Friday, Dec. 1. While a joyous time of year, cold weather, holiday decorations and festivities can create serious fire dangers. Firefighters hope to reduce the number of fires by promoting simple, life-saving holiday safety tips each day in December.

Repairs to the Casino Beach Fishing Pier on Pensacola Beach are anticipated to begin in December 2023, with work estimated to be completed by May 2024. The pier will be closed for the duration of construction.

The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare is excited to partner with the BISSELL Pet Foundation for the "Empty the Shelters - Holiday Hope" adoption event, Dec. 1-17. During this time, adoptions for all cats and dogs 1 year or older will be free. Puppies will be available for $50 and kittens will be available for $25. An $11 licensing fee will be applied to all adoptions for Escambia County residents.

Join us in keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe! A neighborhood cleanup for residents in North Davis will take place Wednesday, Dec. 6. This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is not eligible for removal during this cleanup.
