Escambia County Fire Rescue has added the sixth red bulb to the "Keep the Wreath Green" wreath in 2025 following a residential structure fire Thursday, Dec. 18.
Escambia County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1600 block of Dee's Road at 2:04 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, where light smoke was visible from the garage of a single-story house. Firefighters located a smoldering fire inside the garage and worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading into the house. The fire was extinguished by 2:15 a.m. The garage sustained moderate fire damage, while the house received minor smoke damage. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants with temporary housing while the home is repaired.
ECFR conducted the investigation and determined that a space heater being used in the garage caused the fire. Escambia County EMS evaluated one patient, who declined transportation to the hospital.
During the month-long "Keep the Wreath Green" fire safety campaign, five-foot wreaths will be on display at 18 county fire stations and five city fire stations, as well as Escambia County's Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building downtown, the Escambia County Public Safety Building, Pensacola City Hall and Cordova Mall. Each time firefighters respond to a residential or commercial fire with damage, a green light bulb will be replaced with a red one to remind citizens of the dangers posed by fires in residential and commercial buildings.
