    Effective immediately, in response to air quality monitoring performed by Escambia County, the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH-Escambia) is rescinding the health alert that was issued on July 22, 2014, for the area surrounding the Wedgewood Community Center and the Rolling Hills Construction and Demolition Landfill.

  • Eastern Equine Encephalitis Confirmed in Local Horse

    An unimmunized horse in Escambia County, Florida, was recently euthanized because it contracted Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Unimmunized horses throughout the County are at risk for this disease and horse owners are encouraged to keep current all equine immunizations for mosquito-borne diseases.

  • Traffic Switch on Pineville Road

    Traffic on Pineville Road will be transitioned to the temporary roadway and bridge on Wednesday, July 30. Crews will then begin demolishing and replacing the existing bridge over Brushy Creek. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) awarded a $1.1 million contract to replace the existing structure and make minor drainage improvements. The bridge replacement project is anticipated to be complete fall 2014.

  • Turn Lane Construction on Lillian Highway

    Westbound traffic on State Road 298 (Lillian Highway) between Bauer Road and Joaquin Road will encounter minor delays from Sunday, July 27, to Tuesday, July 29, as crews construct a westbound left turn lane. Lane restrictions will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • More than 100 Attend Joint County, City Storm Water Meeting

    A joint meeting was held on July 18 at the Pensacola Bay Center, of which all County Commissioners, Mayor Hayward and City Council members were in attendance. More than 100 citizens attended the meeting to hear a presentation by J. David Waggoner, FAIA, and discuss storm water issues. Public input was also given on the subject and presentations were also given by County Administrator Jack Brown and City Administrator Colleen Castille regarding efforts to improve drainage systems in our community.

  • Night Work on Interstate 10 in Escambia County

    The eastbound right lane on Interstate 10 (I-10), just west of the U.S. 29 Interchange (mile marker 7) will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 21, as crews remove temporary barrier wall. Motorists are reminded to use caution and obey the posted speed limit, especially at night, when traveling through the work zone.

  • Escambia County celebrates new surgical wing at animal shelter

    Dignitaries, staff, volunteers and members of the Escambia County community gathered at the Escambia County Animal Shelter on March 4 to celebrate the facility’s new surgical wing.\r\n\r\nFunded by Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) dollars, the new $350,000 surgical wing features a surgery suite with two operating tables, laboratory, dog and cat surgery preparation and recovery rooms, wash station, laundry, food preparation and veterinarian office space. Covering 13,000 square feet and built with new surgical cost saving technologies, the additional space will allow for a shorter wait time for new adoptive families or those who qualify for the *low cost spay and neuter program.\r\n\r\nEscambia County is committed to working in partnership with the community to create a safe, healthy and caring environment for both citizens and animals, promoting citizen safety, responsible pet ownership and education in the reduction of animal over population. For more information about Escambia County Animal Services, visit MyEscambia.com by clicking here.\r\n\r\nThe Animal Shelter is now accepting online donations to help offset the care and feeding of sheltered animals.
