Escambia County Waste Services Safety Technician Stanley Gray, OHST CET COSS, was selected as the "Safety Professional of the Year" by the Pensacola Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. The award is conveyed annually to recognize a safety professional who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the safety field.

Boaters and pedestrians are reminded to exercise additional caution near the Pensacola Bay Bridge construction site, particularly during the July 4 holiday period and the Blue Angels Air Show Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8. Boaters should use only the main navigational channel when approaching the bridge and keep a safe distance from construction barges in the bay.

Mills Avenue between Gulf Beach Highway and North Street will experience intermittent lane closures beginning Wednesday, July 5 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The roadway will be reduced to one lane while construction material and equipment are unloaded.

Escambia County Fire Rescue will host a kitchen fire demonstration Friday, June 30 in an effort to spread the word about the dangers involved with unattended cooking. The demonstration is open to the public and will take place at 11 a.m. behind ECFR Station 16, located at 20 N. Navy Blvd.

Matthew Coughlin has been selected to fill the vacant Escambia County Assistant County Administrator position. His duties will include oversight of departments and their strategic plans, along with development of clear performance benchmarks to meet the commission’s objectives. Coughlin joins current Assistant County Administrator Amy Lovoy, as the two most senior positions under County Administrator Jack Brown. His first day with the county is Monday, July 24.
