Book events for adults
Southwest Branch Library Book Club
Friendly literary conversation of “Almost Sisters” by Joshilyn Jackson, a powerful novel that explores the concepts of privilege, family, origins, identity and the distinctions between perception and reality.
Graphic Novel Group
Join Pop Comics owner Harley Orr and Pensacola Library staff in a discussion of a graphic novel decided on during the January meeting. The group meets monthly to discuss graphic novels.
Popular Literary Book Club
Join us for discussion of "My Italian Bulldozer" by Alexander McCall Smith. The novel explores main character Paul Stewart’s misadventures in the Italian countryside. Stewart heads to Montalcino to finish writing his already overdue cookbook, but nothing seems to go right. His hired car is nowhere to be seen, and the only available alternative is a bulldozer offered by an enterprising stranger. Hilarity ensues as Stewart bulldozes his way through the Italian countryside.
Molino Book Club
In honor of the month of love, February's book club is setting readers up on a blind date with some beloved classics. Each person will choose a classic in a plain brown cover. Come in and find a new (classic) book to love.

Canines and Valentines
Valentine meet and greet with the Read With Me™ therapy dogs who come every fourth Saturday for the Read With Me™ program. Friends of the Southwest Branch Library sponsors this program.
Pet Partners: Read With Me™
School-aged children are invited to register for a 15-minute session to pick a book and practice reading with a furry friend. Dogs and handlers are coordinated through Pet Partners and Cherry Point Dog Training, Inc. Preregistration is requested.
Teen events
Teen Thursdays – Pensacola Library
Teens, drop into the STEAM Lab any time from 4:30-7:30 p.m. for up to three hours of exclusive access to computers, gizmos, board games, virtual reality and other fun activities.
Anti-Valentine’s Party
Teens and tweens, if you think cupid rhymes with stupid, celebrate this loathsome holiday with us. We will make anti-Valentine’s Day cards and cookies.
Crafts
Westside Loopy Loomers – Westside Branch Library
Learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items as we give back to the community. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Dream Jars
Children and their parents can attend a gentle story time about a young child who creates a "dream jar". Then we will make our own dream jar that can be used as a night light. Children are welcome to come in pajamas. Hot cocoa will be served.
Rock Painting 101
A local patron will guide you through the fun and creativity of painting rocks for fun from 4:30-6 p.m. Friends of the Southwest Branch Library provide all the supplies for this program.
"A Wrinkle in Time" Program
Teens and pre-teens are invited to join us for art and discussion centered around the upcoming movie release of “A Wrinkle in Time”. Participants can create their idea of “It” from the book description and one artist will be chosen to win a t-shirt with a Tesseract on it. All attendees will leave with a copy of “A Wrinkle in Time” free of charge.

Join us in the newly renovated craft room to get creative. This month we will be making valentines with all our fun craft supplies.

STEAM at Southwest Branch Library - Kids
Come build chain reactions using Lego® bricks and Cubelets®, robot blocks that join together magnetically to work as a team. Each block is about an inch-and-a-half across and connects face-to-face with other Cubelets®. Combine them in different ways and with Lego® bricks, they make your creation move. Duplo® bricks will be available for the little ones.
Sparki Robotics Club – Pensacola Library
Come learn Sparkiduino, a simplified version of C/C++, to program Sparki, an adorable Arduino robot. Sparki can be programmed to follow lines, solve mazes, avoid walls and edges and draw shapes. This ongoing workshop is intended for ages 9 and up.
Open STEAM Lab – Pensacola Library
Would you like to explore some of the robots and other technology tools that West Florida Public Libraries owns? Would you like to become trained to use the machines in the Technology Lab? Drop into the STEAM Lab during our open hours and staff will assist you in getting started with robotics, virtual reality or the Silhouette machines.

Come learn how to create your own stamps with the Silhouette machines. The library will provide the supplies needed, just bring your creativity.
Lego® night – Pensacola Library
Visit the craft room to create with Lego®. There will be building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up; parent or caregiver must be present.
Preschool STEAM at Tryon Branch Library
On Feb. 8, join us for a STEAM Story Time as we read “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and build our own letter trees. On Feb. 22, we will read “Bartholomew and the Oobleck” and make our own oobleck.
Lego® at the Library – Pensacola Library
On Feb. 10, come build chain reactions using Lego® bricks. On Feb. 24, come answer the question of who will win, train or dinosaur. The library provides the Lego® bricks, you just need to bring your imagination. Duplo® bricks will be available for the little ones.
Women’s Coding Club – Pensacola Library
Interested in learning more about code? Come explore the basics of coding in these introductory sessions and open the door to the world of code.
STEAM at Pensacola Library - Kids
Join us to explore the technology and tools of the STEAM Lab in these monthly sessions. On Feb. 15, we will explore Tiny Whoop quadcopters, small first-person-view aircraft that truly allow you to feel the gift of flight and the feeling of being tiny. STEAM Family Night: Marshmallow Building Challenge
Children, tweens, and teens, ages 6 to 17 are challenged to enter Pensacola Library’s Marshmallow Building Challenge. Build the tallest tower possible without toppling or running out of marshmallows and spaghetti. There are three age groups, with a prize given to each. Parents are welcome to attend, but are not allowed to coach or assist children. All materials are provided, and the winners’ photos will be posted on our website.

Typewriter Valentines
Citizens can drop by Pensacola Library during open hours to type an old-fashioned Valentine’s Day note for their sweetheart or crush. The library will provide typewriters, paper and envelopes.

Come meet the members of the West Florida Genealogical Society. You don’t have to be a member to attend, and they’ll be glad to help you learn more about researching your family history.
Movies and Music
Pensacola Opera presents “The Three Little Pigs”
Join the Pensacola Opera for a 40-minute operatic version of “The Three Little Pigs” by John Davies. The story follows three sibling pigs, Donna Giovanni, Cherubino and Despina. While her siblings are off building houses out of sticks and straw, Despina goes to the library to find books about “huff-proof, puff-proof” construction. After Wolfgang Bigbad blows down their houses, the pigs run to their sister’s sturdy brick house, ready to admit that going to the library was a smart choice.
Movie Night for the Family – “The Sword in the Stone”
Once a month, we’re breaking out the popcorn for classic movies for the whole family. This month’s film is the G-rated Disney classic “The Sword in the Stone”, release date 1963 with a running time of 79 minutes.

GED Classes – Molino Branch Library
Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. Classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Center. AARP Tax-Aide – Pensacola Library
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone. Services are aimed at those who are 50 and older and/or can’t afford a tax preparation service. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services. AARP membership is not required. Representatives will be at Pensacola Library to provide this service on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 17. The last person is accepted at 1 p.m. The program is jointly sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Citizens should bring a photo I.D., Social Security cards or other official documentation for everyone on the return, a copy of last year’s tax return, tax forms and information for this tax year and a schedule of deductions if they have numerous receipts.

Come and learn the basics of exploring the internet. Navigation and browser basics and basic internet safety will be discussed.
