Want to spend more time playing with dogs? Consider signing up for one of two free "Dogs Playing for Life" volunteer seminars hosted by the Escambia County Animal Shelter Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 1- 4:30 p.m. and 6 - 9:30 p.m. All volunteers and professionals over the age of 18 interested in animal welfare or future shelter volunteer opportunities are encouraged to attend either of the seminars, which will take place at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, room 104, located at 3363 West Park Place in Pensacola.
Both seminars will offer specific guidelines and tips for introducing dogs into playgroups,ways to effectively manage healthy canine play with a diverse group of dogs with different personalities, play styles and backgrounds, signs to watch for that may indicate problem interactions and ways to use playgroups to better facilitate adoption matching. Once volunteers complete either seminar, they will be able to engage in hands-on dog playgroup experiences at the shelter with class instructors.
"Dogs Playing for Life" is an acclaimed enrichment program for shelter dogs featuring canine playgroups. Introduced in over 100 shelters throughout the U.S. and Canada, the program utilizes the playgroups as an assessment, enrichment, training and adoption enhancement tool to helps save shelter lives.
