The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, March 9 from 8 a.m. until noon at Bailey Middle School, 4110 Bauer Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

Erosion threatens infrastructure and public access at several locations along the Navy Point Park shoreline. Escambia County Natural Resources Management and Parks & Recreation Departments are working to resolve erosion by establishing "living shorelines" at critically eroded locations and by renourishing beach areas.

Escambia County has opened two new Pensacola Beach parking lot expansion projects, one located at the old Visitor Information Center near the Sandshaker and the other at Casino Beach west of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier. The combined projects add 112 new car and 14 new motorcycle parking spots.

Pensacola Beach Lifeguards will return to their towers Friday, March 1 for the 2019 lifeguard season. Initially, one to three towers at Casino Beach will be manned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, shifting to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Sunday, March 10. As summer approaches, staffing will increase to provide coverage at up to 10 towers, including the towers at Gulf Islands National Seashore, which are staffed starting Memorial Day weekend.
