    The Escambia County Board of Commissioners will hold several meetings Thursday, Dec. 10. Agenda Review and the Community Redevelopment Agency Meeting will begin at 9 a.m., followed by Public Forum at 4:30 p.m. and the BCC Regular Meeting at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, found on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place.

  • ECFR to conduct a live Christmas tree fire demonstration on Friday, Dec. 11

    Escambia County Fire Rescue invites the media and public to a live Christmas tree fire demonstration on Friday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. in the over flow parking lot of the Public Safety Building on 6575 N. "W" Street. According to the National Christmas Tree Growers Association, there are 25 to 30 million Christmas trees sold every year. Escambia County Fire Rescue wants to show the risks involved when a tree is not properly maintained and becomes dry. Santa will also be on hand to demonstrate smoke detectors, and there will be a sign-up sheet for smoke alarm installation.

  • FEMA: Local Officials Determine Whether Home Sustained “Substantial Damage”

    After flooding, local officials inspect homes damaged by flood waters to determine whether a structure was damaged to the extent that it will have to meet current codes when it is repaired. A determination of “substantial damage” applies to a severely damaged home or other structure in a Special Flood Hazard Area, or flood zone, where the community participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
