Officials with the Florida Forest Service’s Blackwater Forestry Center are limiting authorized burns in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties because of high winds and low humidity. Potential burns will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis Monday and Tuesday and only those who are certified burn practitioners may be authorized if approved.

Home fires occur more in the winter months than at any other time of the year. According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths, and space heaters account for 4 out of 5 home heating fire deaths.

Residents of Edgewater and Davenport will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Friday, Feb. 12 during the Neighborhood Cleanup in District 2. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected.
