Residents of Oakfield will have the opportunity to dispose of yard debris and other items free of charge Friday, Aug. 13 during the Neighborhood Cleanup in District 3. Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected. See the map below for the details of the cleanup area.

On Saturday, Aug. 7, Community Health Northwest Florida, in partnership with with Escambia County District 3 County Commissioner Lumon May, will host “Back-to-School Vax and Dash,” a COVID-19 vaccination clinic and backpack giveaway at Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. De Soto St., Pensacola. All individuals ages 12 and up, including students, parents, guardians and teachers are eligible and encouraged to participate.

Escambia County’s nesting season has just passed its halfway mark, with a total of 19 nests on Pensacola Beach and four on Perdido Key. Of the 23 nests discovered, 22 are Loggerhead with one Green nest on Pensacola Beach. While the season got off to a slow start, nesting activity picked up through June and July.

In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions Wednesday, Aug. 4 in Commission Districts 1, 4 and 5. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m.

A final public meeting to discuss design improvements for Longleaf Drive from Pine Forest Road to Marcus Bayou Bridge will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Longleaf Elementary School, 2600 Longleaf Drive, Pensacola. The meeting will include a brief introduction at 5:30 p.m. and then an open house format for questions and comments. This format allows for one-on-one dialog with the project team.

Escambia County Fire Rescue and EMS crews responded at 2:30 p.m. to a single engine plane crash near Blue Angels Elementary located at 1551 Dog Track Road. Three patients were transported to local area hospitals: two via helicopters and one via ambulance. There were no injuries involved at the school and no damage to buildings.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. until noon at Washington High School, 6000 College Parkway, in the WHS Driver’s Ed. parking lot (near the tennis courts). Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.
