Following construction work that took place Sunday, Aug. 21, the traffic light at the intersection of Olive Road and Davis Highway has been fully rebuilt. Work began on time at 7 a.m. and, by 8 a.m., all signal heads were removed with no overhead items remaining. Crews were able to install signals by 3 p.m. and demonstrate successful operations by 3:30 p.m.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will soon begin remediation of the former Omni-Vest Landfill, located at 4094 Idlewood Drive. The project will begin Aug. 29, 2022, with work taking place Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Work is expected to be completed by January 2023.

A complete traffic signal rebuild will take place at the intersection of Olive Road and Davis Highway Sunday, Aug. 21. Work will take place from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., weather permitting. Work is necessary to repair the traffic signal as it frequently goes into flash condition during inclement weather.

Escambia County is thrilled to announce that a leatherback turtle nest hatched on Pensacola Beach for the first time in over 20 years. Approximately 60 leatherback hatchlings made their way to the Gulf during the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 10. Aided by a full moon, the hatchlings were able to make their way to the Gulf unassisted, a rare victory on a developed coastline.
