In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in Escambia County, the Mosquito Control Division has filed a "Notice of Intent" to proceed with fogging missions on Wednesday, Aug. 10 in Commission Districts 3, 4 and 5. Mission hours vary, but typically occur in the evening hours from 6-9:30 p.m. All operations are dependent on weather conditions.

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, Escambia County Fire Rescue welcomed students within the Escambia County School District back to the classroom in honor of the first day of school. ECFR reminds drivers to use caution and adhere to the reduced speed limits while driving in a school zone.

Perdido Key celebrated its first sea turtle hatch of the season during the evening of Monday, Aug. 8. Escambia County Sea Turtle Patrol volunteers discovered the hatch during routine nest checks and were able to safely recover a small number of hatchlings, but the majority of the hatchlings disoriented towards artificial lights. Pensacola Beach celebrated its first sea turtle hatch of the season on July 24.

Escambia County will host the first public meeting for the Bayou Chico Contaminated Sediment Remediation Project at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2022. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the regularly scheduled Marine Advisory Committee meeting at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, located at 3363 W. Park Place.
