Escambia County proudly recognizes May 5-12, 2024, as Corrections Officers, Corrections Professionals and Nurses Week. During this week, the county recognizes the men and women of Escambia County
Corrections who exemplify professionalism, integrity and strength when faced
with challenges and dangers that may put their lives at risk.
Corrections officers are trained law
enforcement professionals responsible for supervising inmate conduct
and behavior to maintain security within the facility. The operation of
corrections facilities represents a crucial component of the criminal justice
system in the United States. Corrections personnel play a vital role in
protecting the rights of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity.
"This week is dedicated to the corrections and medical professionals for public recognition," said Escambia County Corrections Director Rich Powell. "They are a vital cog in the criminal justice system. Our staff serve this role nobly and selflessly, creating opportunities to contribute to building a safer community. Their service does not go unseen, nor unappreciated. It is with great pride that I be the first to tell our staff, 'Thank you, you matter in our mission.'"
