The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners will hold its second public budget hearing Monday, Sept. 23, at 5:01 p.m. The hearing will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, located on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place.

This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is not eligible for removal during this cleanup.

Pensacola Beach access point 25B will be closed Friday, Sept. 20, while crews work to remove a derelict vessel on the beach. Work will begin at 7 a.m. and is expected to be finished by sunset.

UF/IFAS Escambia Extension is offering a Coastal Systems Training course open to anyone interested in obtaining a hands-on, in-depth education about Florida's natural environment. The course begins Wednesday, Oct. 2 and ends on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

To be considered, applicants must submit the completed Escambia Children’s Trust application and questionnaire for gubernatorial appointments with an optional resume by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
