Pensacola Beach Lifeguards have shifted to winter staffing levels. Accordingly, lifeguard towers have been removed from the beach until the 2025 lifeguard season. Lifeguards will maintain a presence on Pensacola Beach throughout the winter at Casino Beach and via patrol vehicles.

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners will hold a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. to install appointed District 4 Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger to the board. The meeting will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, located on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place.

Escambia County is excited to announce this year's Peanut Butter Challenge, an annual jar collection for local food pantries hosted by UF/IFAS Extension and Florida A&M University Cooperative Extension. Launched in the Florida Panhandle counties in 2012, the challenge is again spreading statewide this year.

Escambia County Fire Rescue invites residents to observe National Fire Prevention Week 2024 from Oct. 6-12. This year's theme is, "Smoke Alarms: Make Them WORK for You!" Residents are encouraged to have functioning smoke alarms in their homes, including knowing how to test smoke alarms and when to replace non-functioning smoke alarms.

Due to a beekeeper's event at the Escambia Extension office on Saturday, Oct. 12, the playground and southwest side of the walking track will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only program attendees will have access to the grounds. The walking track and playground will reopen following the event.
