  • Escambia County Waste Services to Expand Perdido Landfill

    Escambia County Waste Services is currently constructing the next area of Perdido Landfill, Section 5 – Cell 1B, for the placement of waste generated within the county. Cell 1B is a nearly 20 acre engineered landfill cell that will provide the landfill an additional 4.75 years of constructed life. The landfill is permitted for two additional cells once Cell 1B is full.

  • Escambia County IT to Conduct Internet Upgrades Jan. 31

    On Tuesday, Jan. 31, between 8-11 p.m., Escambia County's Information Technology department will conduct upgrades to the county's internet connection. These upgrades will impact the county's internet service providers, Uniti Fiber and Cox Communications.

  • FDOT: Demolition Activities to Slow Traffic on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Jan. 30

    Drivers will encounter a rolling slow down of traffic on the Pensacola Bay Bridge Monday, Jan. 30 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will be demolishing and removing a submerged pier from the 1960-era bridge. Law enforcement personnel will be deployed to strategically slow bridge traffic during the work.

  • ECFR Volunteer Firefighter Named Florida's Mother of the Year

    Escambia County Fire Rescue is excited to announce that volunteer firefighter and mother of two, Cheyann Smith, has been named the 2023 Florida Mother of the Year by the American Mothers organization. Smith will be recognized during the American Mothers National Convention this April in Omaha, Neb.

  • Escambia County Animal Welfare Waives Adoption Fees Jan. 27-Feb. 4

    The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare will offer a "Home for the Holidays" adoption special now through Dec. 31, 2022. Anyone looking to adopt will be able to take home a cat or kitten for $10, or a dog or puppy for just $25. Escambia County residents are required to pay a separate $11 licensing fee at the time of adoption.

  • New Pensacola Beach Sailfish Sign Fully Operational

    Escambia County is pleased to announce the new Pensacola Beach sailfish sign is fully operational. The sign sustained damage during Hurricane Sally in 2020. Work to replace the sign began on Dec. 6, 2022. The new sign was built by Plastic Arts Sign Company of Pensacola.

  • Escambia County Rental Assistance Program Closes Jan. 24

    The Escambia County Emergency Rental Assistance Program will no longer accept applications effective Tuesday, Jan. 24. Due to the high volume of applications submitted, funding is no longer available. The application portal opened Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, to eligible low-income Escambia County residents and families facing financial hardship due to COVID-19.

  • Prescribed Burn for Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve Jan. 27

    The Natural Resources Conservation Division is preparing for a prescribed burn in the Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve. Staff anticipates conducting burn activities Friday, Jan. 27, weather permitting. The area for the proposed burn is approximately 28 acres and located south of Highway 98, west of Fairfield Drive, north of Gulf Beach Highway, and east of Blue Angel Parkway.

    Escambia County residents are encouraged to monitor potential severe weather with the enhanced risk of damaging winds, tornadoes, high surf and dangerous rip currents on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, Jan. 24-25. Beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, Escambia County will be under a High Wind Warning.

  • Get to Know the Alert Escambia Emergency Notification System

    On Friday, Jan. 13, an Escambia County "Alert Escambia" emergency notification was broadcasted to help locate a missing child. The alert informed the public of the last known whereabouts and detailed description of the child. Fortunately, the child was located approximately an hour after the alert was distributed.

    Escambia County Fire Rescue is pleased to announce that Captain Joel Richardson has been named the 2022 Instructor of the Year by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association. The Florida Rapid Intervention Training Operations Group, a training organization instructing the FFCA since 2012, has been recognized for the award alongside Captain Richardson.
