    A fire on the 8900 block of Mobile Highway represents the fourth red bulb on the “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety wreath. Escambia County Emergency Communications received the call at 4:32 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 from a resident of the home reporting a fire in the ceiling.

  • New Record Set for Smoke Detector Installations

    One hundred smoke detectors were installed by Escambia County Fire Rescue in 71 homes in the Lakewood area today, the largest number ever installed by county fire crews in one day. On Saturday, Dec. 10, volunteers from First Baptist Church of Warrington and ECFR firefighters walked the neighborhood, knocking on doors and offering to install a new smoke detector with a 10-year battery at no charge.

    Escambia County Fire Rescue will be distributing free smoke detectors Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 a.m. during a neighborhood canvas in the Lakewood area. During the event, volunteers from First Baptist Church of Warrington and ECFR firefighters will be walking the neighborhood, knocking on doors and offering to install a smoke detector.

    The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Perdido Landfill, located at 13009 Beulah Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

    With below-freezing temperatures expected along the Gulf Coast this weekend, the National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama has issued a Freeze Watch for Escambia County and surrounding areas. The Freeze Watch will be in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning, with early morning lows Saturday forecast from 27-32 degrees.
