Time is running out to apply for funding from the State Housing Initiatives Partnership, or SHIP, program to assist homeowners needing repair or replacement housing assistance as a result of the February tornadoes in Escambia County. Applications must be approved prior to Dec. 31, 2016, so applicants are encouraged to contact the appropriate agency as soon as possible.

Based on an expected drop in humidity over the next several days and an extended dry spell, officials with the Florida Forest Service’s Blackwater Forestry Center will not be issuing authorization. While there are no burn bans in place for Escambia County, the FFS is urging residents to not burn any yard debris until we receive an appreciable amount of rain or conditions improve.
