Francis L. Emond was lined up with his fellow Navy members for morning colors on Dec. 7, 1941, when he watched the ships in front of him sink in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Escambia County Jail and Work Release Center received notification that they have again passed both the Florida Model Jail Standards and Medical Unit Inspections, with inspectors finding no violations. The Florida Model Jail Standards are minimum standards that jails across Florida must meet to ensure the constitutional rights of those incarcerated are upheld.

CSX has announced that beginning Sunday, Oct. 9 at 8 a.m. Airport Boulevard will be closed to both east and westbound traffic at the railroad crossing while crews rehabilitate the track. The closure is expected to take five days, weather permitting.
