The program, aimed at adults age 18 and up, begins May 30 and runs in conjunction with the children’s program until July 31 with the same theme, Build a Better World. Keep track of the books you read and record them in a log for a chance to win prizes. Adults do not need to have a child registered in the children’s program to participate. However, a valid library card is required. Register at any West Florida Public Libraries location. Remember: Audiobooks are not cheating.
Bookish Happenings
Book events for adults
Southwest Branch Library Book Club
Friendly literary conversation of Douglas Preston’s real life adventure of hunting for “The Lost City of The Monkey God”. Preston and the team battled torrential rains, quickmud, disease-carrying insects, jaguars and deadly snakes after seeing aerial images of a sprawling metropolis, tantalizing evidence of not just an undiscovered city but an enigmatic, lost civilization. Light refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Graphic Novel Group
Join Pop Comics owner Harley Orr and Pensacola Library staff in a discussion of a graphic novel that participants will decide on during the May meeting. The group will meet monthly to discuss graphic novels.
Popular Literary Book Club
Erik Larson intertwines the true tale of the 1893 World’s Fair and the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their deaths. Combining meticulous research with nail-biting storytelling, Larson has crafted a narrative with all the wonder of newly discovered history and the thrills of the best fiction.
Best Sellers Book Club
“Dragon Teeth”, a previously undiscovered work by “Jurassic Park” author Michael Crichton, promises to be high in demand. The novel tells the story of a notorious rivalry between dinosaur fossil hunters in the late 1800s. Two monomaniacal paleontologists pillage the Wild West, hunting for dinosaur fossils, while surveilling, deceiving and sabotaging each other in a rivalry that will come to be known as the Bone Wars.
Molino Book Discussion
Join fellow readers at Molino Branch Library for a rousing discussion of the steam punk novel: “Infernal Devices” by K. W. Jeeter. He inherited a watchmaker’s store – and a whole heap of trouble. But idle sometime-musician George has little talent for clockwork. And when a shadowy figure tries to steal an old device from the premises, George finds himself embroiled in a mystery of time travel, music and sexual intrigue.

And everyone in America is so serious and practical that glamorous Halloween costumes are hard to get. Molly's special hula skirt is a huge success -- until Ricky, her pesky big brother, plays a mean trick. Molly and her friends are determined to get back at him.
