According to the National Hurricane Center, Irma continues to be a potentially catastrophic Category 5 hurricane. The threat of direct hurricane impacts in Florida over the weekend and early next week has increased. While the storm is tracking more favorably away from our area, it is important to understand that the projected storm track is still subject to change.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 a.m., Arthur Brown Road (99A) at the railroad tracks in Walnut Hill will be closed to all traffic. The roadway closure is expected to remain in effect from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hurricane Irma is now a very dangerous Category 5 storm. What does it all mean for Escambia County and Northwest Florida? According to the National Hurricane Center, the chance of direct impacts from Hurricane Irma to the Florida Keys and the Florida Peninsula is increasing, with a projected impact of late this week or this weekend.
