Escambia County Building Services offered training classes for contractors and citizen builders on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and Thursday, Jan. 18, on the new permitting system, MyGovernmentOnline. The free training courses were held at the Central Office Complex, located at 3363 West Park Place and attendance of all three classes totaled more than 250 people.

The Gulf Consortium has approved the Draft Florida State Expenditure Plan for public comment and opened the 45-day public comment period through March 2, also scheduling a public comment meeting and webinars. The draft plan includes $12.6 million for the Bayou Chico Contaminated Sediment Remediation Project, which was unanimously selected by the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners as the county's sole project for the SEP.

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Escambia County. Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing with wintry precipitation, with a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow with accumulation of .1 inch overnight. Some parts of the county will not see temperatures above freezing until Friday. A dangerously low wind chill is forecast Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with Pensacola forecast to be 13 degrees at 7 a.m. when factoring the wind. A hard freeze warning is in effect for Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
