Verizon customers in Escambia County may not be able to utilize their mobile device to call 9-1-1 for emergency services due to a service interruption. Verizon users who need emergency services such as law enforcement, EMS or fire should use a landline, a mobile device from a different carrier or visit the nearest fire station.

On March 1, Escambia County received grant awards for three RESTORE Direct Component Pot 1 projects from the U.S. Department of Treasury as part of the county’s RESTORE Multi-Year Implementation Plan. These planning projects include the Carpenter Creek and Bayou Texar Revitalization Plan, the Universal Public Access Plan and the Eleven Mile Creek Basin Stormwater Ponds Plan. All three projects are expected to begin in the spring.

The Escambia County Waste Services Department will host the next Regional Roundup on Saturday, April 7 from 8 a.m. until noon in the front parking lot of Bailey Middle School, located at 4110 Bauer Road. Regional Roundup events provide an opportunity to properly dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste and up to four tires per vehicle, free of charge.

Escambia County's Play, Learn, Grow after school program will host a special spring break program Monday, March 26 through Thursday, March 29 from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Resource Center, 3200 W. De Soto St. The program is free and open to youth in grades K-12, including those who have never participated in the Play, Learn, Grow after school program.
