The Florida Office of Greenways and Trails is currently receiving public comment on the Five Year Systems Plan update. The plan will be used by the state of Florida through 2022 to implement the vision of a connected statewide system of greenways and water trails for recreation, conservation, and alternative transpiration.

At the Thursday, Nov. 30 commission meeting, District 2 Commissioner Doug Underhill was recognized for his year of leadership as chairman and the new commission chairman and vice chairman assumed their roles. District 1 Commissioner Jeff Bergosh was appointed to serve as chairman and District 3 Commissioner Lumon May was chosen to serve as vice chairman for the coming year.

The Escambia County Animal Shelter has been awarded a $75,000 grant for extensive renovations to the shelter, which will improve animal welfare while enhancing overall aesthetics at the shelter. The renovation process will also be filmed and broadcast nationally on PBS on an episode of Shelter Me, an uplifting film series that celebrates shelter pets and the people who help them.
