    The John R. Jones Drop-Off Recycling site located at 555 E. Nine Mile Road will be closed effective June 15 until further notice. This closure is due to illegal dumping and unacceptable levels of contamination commingled in the recyclable materials. The contamination increases the cost of processing recycling materials

  • First Perdido Key Loggerhead Nest Recorded Wednesday

    The Escambia County Sea Turtle Conservation Program recorded the season’s first sea turtle nest on Perdido Key early this morning, Wednesday, June 10. The loggerhead nest is one of two nests currently on county-patrolled beaches, after high tides and heavy surf from Tropical Storm Cristobal washed away two nests on Pensacola Beach earlier this week.

  • West Florida Public Libraries Serves 20,000 Meals to Youth

    West Florida Public Libraries has provided over 20,000 free curbside pickup meals for youth 18 and younger since March 23, 2020 with Feeding the Gulf Coast. Meals are available for pickup at all WFPL library locations on Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Wedgewood Neighborhood Cleanup Collects 23 Tons of Debris

    Escambia County collected and disposed of approximately 23 tons (46,000 pounds) of debris during the District 3 Wedgewood Neighborhood Cleanup in June, as part of the county's ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe. The event allowed residents to leave items at the curb to be disposed of free of charge by the county and partnering agencies.

    Escambia County updated its short-term vacation rental plan effective Friday, June 5 at 12:01 a.m. This plan was adjusted to name the states that are currently still excluded from travel to Florida based on Executive Orders 20-80 and 20-82. Reservations are not allowed from New York, New Jersey or Connecticut with exceptions.
